One of the staples of the holiday season is that of the holiday-themed party. Without proper entertainment, however, these parties may become a bit dull. If you find you and your fellow party-goers in need of a fun diversion, try one of these fun holiday party games!
Holiday Charades
Almost everyone has played Charades at least once in their life, mostly because it’s tons of fun and requires very little to set up. Simply fill a hat with several slips of paper featuring different types of holiday characters, songs or films. Guests then take turns drawing from the hat and acting out their choice, without talking, until someone guesses the answer. It’s a great fit for any party since it costs little to set-up and can be scaled to fit small groups and large groups alike.
Board Game Tournament
For smaller groups of 8 to 10 people, a board game tournament can’t be beat. Everyone splits up into teams that will remain the same throughout the tournament, and five to seven games are then played. Whichever team wins at the most board games, wins the tournament! This is especially fun when playing as boys versus girls, or while enjoying fresh glasses of eggnog.
Wrapping Race
Wrapping gifts should be a familiar task for everyone during the holidays, and now you can make this into a fun game! Simply split a small group into two or more teams, providing each with identical sets of gifts, wrapping paper and tape. Whoever is able to wrap all of their presents first is the winner. Oddly shaped gifts will be more challenging to wrap and will spice up the game in terms of difficulty and fun.
White Elephant
White Elephant is becoming increasingly popular at holiday parties, as it combines the fun of a gift exchange with the hilarious unpredictability of a game. Participants are asked to bring a wrapped gift under a certain dollar amount, usually less than $10, and place them in a pile. Play starts with one person choosing a gift from the pile and unwrapping it. Subsequent participants can either choose to steal an unwrapped gift from another player, or choose a wrapped gift from the pile. Players whose gifts are stolen are able to then replace their stolen gift with a wrapped gift from the pile. Play continues until all of the gifts are unwrapped. It’s a game that’s sure to shock and entertain guests of all kinds.
Stocking Memory
In this game, individuals or teams are each given a stocking filled with 20 to 30 items like candy and small gifts. Participants then have 60 seconds to memorize everything in the stocking. After time is up, participants are provided with paper and a pencil to list every they remember from the stocking. After three minutes, whoever has the most items listed correctly wins the game. This can be played in teams for larger groups, and it can even be played with children as well as adults!
